a martelo de negative (basically a roundhouse kick performed while on a sitting stance) would be quite a great impact firebending attack

you dint' need to explain , i already knew all that, i found similarities with capoerira( which is based on a fighting style as well) and used it as inspiration, taht doesnt' mean i didn't knwo about the martial arts, it is pretty obvious

That is true. Zuko just comes off as the type that, if he's going to learn how to dance it'd be in secret. But then the Fire Nation forbid dancing however if he ever learned to dance, it'd probably be on his fathers orders and it'd probably be ballroom. Even taking out the Fire Nation it still sticks. Maybe later in his rebellious teenage years he'd learn in secret.

He doesn't seem the type to learn, willingly at least, how to dance at all though. Capoerira looks like you're dancing. At least probably to him, I know if Azula found out, he'd think she'd laugh... And then there's his girlfriend (who would actually probably be slightly impressed). Truthfully Zuko is very concious of how people see him. But if he did learn it'd be in secret. Analysing aside, I think it's an interesting idea and pretty cool.

Actually firebending (and all bending actually) are based off Chinese martial arts... Although drunken fist (there are twelve or thirteen styles of this I don't remember. Chinese martial art(s) too. Also known as different types of Kung-fu I guess) and capoeira do look vaguely alike. It's just that capoeira is a dancing martial art. I can't really see Zuko being the dancing (fighting or no) type. Aang and even maybe Azula because capoeira would be her thing more than drunken fist(s) Ty Lee might learn it though. Zuko should stick to kickboxing or maybe even Northern Shaolin style of kung fu, but with a few techniques from Northern Seven Star Praying Manti. Also known as fire bending. There's more to it, but I doubt you care.

AHA! the moment I saw this picture from afar, I knew it was capoeira! I'm very proud to say that I guessed correctly.

I forget what this move is called in Portuguese however. it LOOKS like the ending of the move Rabo de Arraia

Chapeu.

OR. XD

Queda de Rins. :D But I bet my money on chapeu de couro. XD

I love this piece, truly it spoke to me. :meow:

This is a great piece, but just fyi Firebending was based off of Shaolin (which while one of the bases for many martial arts styles that came later, has very little directly to do with Capoiera)

Again it's a great piece and I could see Zuko pulling this off, but the martial arts buff in me had to speak out :) Keep up the great work!

it's not a buff it's just an opinion. Since there are some similarities, i just said that i know it was inspired on saholin martial arts.

Could be wrong, but from my own limited experience of martial arts, this is what they looked like to me:

Firebending = Karate, the heavy hits and fast movements sure seem like shotokan to me.

Earthbending = Southern Kung Fu, squat, steady motions were favored by the southern chinese kung fu styles.

Waterbending = Tai Chi, lots of extraneous movements, meant to harness ch'i.

Airbending = Northern Kung Fu, (longfist) meant to maximize reach and mobility in a more defensive style.

I could be off. I've heard people say that all four are chinese styles, and that some of the stronger individual characters use styles different than those of the rest of their nation. Toph, for example, uses different stances than other earthbenders, while Iroh uses different forms than the other firebenders.

(Yes I know, I'm a geek. Good job on the artings.)

Warning very extensive information ahead.
Firebending moves are based mainly on the Northern Shaolin style of kung fu, but with a few techniques from Northern Seven Star Praying Mantis. These martial arts feature quick, successive attacks that exert extreme power momentarily, much like an explosion, called ging lik. It optimizes a strong continuous offense, sacrificing defense for greater power, the principle behind a pre-emptive strike, making Firebending the most aggressive of the four bending arts.

Earthbending is generally based on the Hung Gar style of Kung Fu,
which features heavily rooted stances and strong kicks and punches that
evoke the mass and power of earth. The martial art is based on the
movements of animals, including the tiger, which is utilized when
initiating hard blows, and the crane, which is used to land gently back
on the Earth. There are exceptions to this rule - Toph, the blind
Earthbender's style is based on Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu, using
its precise stepping to maintain contact with the ground for her to "see".

Waterbending is based on a style of Tai Chi Chuan (specifically the Yang style). It is a Chinese martial art that features slow movements and elegant forms that evoke the feel of flowing water. Waterbending's strength is its great versatility. Rather than supporting a separate set of offensive methods, Waterbending employs defensive techniques that can be transformed into attacks and counters - defense into offense. Instead of simply deflecting an attack, Waterbending's defensive maneuvers focus on control, achieved through turning an opponent's own strength against him, rather than directly harming the opponent.

Airbenders never seek a fight and they never seek to strike an opponent directly. Airbending is based on the Ba Gua style of martial arts, also known as "circle walking" or "Eight Trigram Palm", along with a small hint of Hsing Yi, also known as "mind heart boxing". These martial arts feature swift, evasive maneuvers that evoke the intangibility and explosive power of wind, drawing energy from the center of the abdomen.
Ba Gua, which utilizes circle walking of the Eight Trigrams, is known for its constant circular movement, which makes it difficult for opponents to attack directly or land a blow. Maneuvers employ the entire body with smooth coiling and uncoiling movements, utilizing dynamic footwork, open-hand techniques, punches and throws. A common tactic is to maneuver behind an opponent and mirror their movements, preventing them from turning to face the practitioner.
Unlike other bending disciplines, Airbending is almost entirely a defensive art, similar to its practitioners, and is the most dynamic of all other elements
